After the death of a child at the hands of her foster parents and the continuing stories I was hearing of child victims around the world, I started to weave “armor suits” that suggest protection, and might even evoke the vulnerability of children to violence, abuse and war. They are riveted strips of stainless steel, plated steels, copper and brass.
The very first installation of THE KIDS was presented years before the Columbine school shooting in 1999. I didn’t realize how prescient the work would become.
